Warrior to worshipper

Robert and Nicole Westerveld are grateful for contact with the Yagwoia believers, in Papua New Guinea, that they have had over the last couple of months, keeping them informed about church life in the tribe. The believers in Andakombi told them last month that the oldest man in the church and in the village, had passed away. In his younger days, this man was a great warrior in the tribe. When he put his trust in Christ, he repeatedly testified of what a bad person he had been, but that he knew that God had forgiven him because of the death of the Lord Jesus, also for his sins. Because he was an important person in the tribe, many people came to his funeral. The believers took the opportunity to talk about the change that had taken place in his life. Many people were touched by his testimony.

Recently a lady who has mouth cancer, was baptised. For years she had resisted the Gospel but that changed last year. Her time here on earth will not be long, humanly speaking, but at her baptism she testified that she knows that she will go to the Lord.

Robert and Nicole plan to travel to Papua New Guinea in early May. They are thankful that they already have their visa. They will spend the first part of their time with the Iwalaqamalje believers in the tribe and the second part with the Iqwaye and Gwase believers. They will also spend time at the mission base in Goroka where a colleague will do the final check of Joshua, Ruth and Ezra for the Iwalaqamalje believers. In the last few months Robert has been working on the first chapters of the translations of Numbers, Judges, 1 Samuel, Nehemiah and Psalms for them, and translated Obadiah. For the Iqwaye and Gwase believers he has continued working on the New Testaments.

Thank you for your prayers.
