Recently, when Steve and Gerdine Stanley and family left the Kovol village in Papua New Guinea for a short break, after just a couple of days they received the news that one of the students in the literacy class had died.
Back in the village co-workers Philip and Natalie are mourning with the community. The sudden loss of their friend, land owner and student saddens them. Whether this has a longer term impact on the literacy class remains to be seen. Please be praying for the community as they mourn. Pray too that the Lord would steer the thinking of people away from things like blaming a sorcerer or something else that may cause anger.
The team has 900 or so Bible verses still to translate for the evangelistic teaching programme. It might take another year to get that all ready.
Steve has now finished translating the first seven lessons, each of them needed Kovol speakers to be involved in the translation process. Therefore a small group of people have already heard these lessons and have been discussing with Steve the best way to say things In Kovol. Hearing the responses to the comprehension questions at the end of the lessons is the most helpful way for Steve to get an insight into what is being understood.
