Aaron and Amy Speitelsbach who serve in Liberia, West Africa, among the Glarro people, recently returned to the village from their break in town. Their access road to the village has been deteriorating and it took them much longer than usual to get back. They got stuck five times and had to pull themselves back out of the mud, which was more difficult as Aaron was feeling unwell.
Sadly, one young man who has a family with three young children, recently took a canoe trip downstream with a group of people. The canoe hit a rock; he fell out and drowned in the process of trying to swim to the shore. Eleven days later, while everyone was still grieving, one of his younger sisters died in the hospital after a brief period of illness. Several people in the village have been reasoning that this must be the doing of witches. Unless the Holy Spirit opens their eyes, there is no way that the Glarro people will ever see and believe God’s truth.
With Aaron not feeling well, they were not able to teach a Bible lesson until he had sufficiently recovered. They then taught a topical lesson and were explaining that the devil came to steal, kill and destroy, while reviewing how he deceived Adam and Eve, and stressing that he is still doing the very same thing today.
It is still very uncertain if Amy will again be able to teach Bible and literacy classes at the village school. The elementary school is supposed to restart this month. Yet, there is only one government paid teacher. And many parents are not in favour of him teaching due to their belief about witches. In past years there have also been funds available to help pay for national volunteer teachers, but sadly not this year.
They thank God:
For those who recently attended the Bible teaching and were listening carefully.
That they can always find encouragement through His Word, a song, a Bible verse, or a prayer.
That Aaron is finally feeling better.
Please pray:
That the Glarro people will realise that they have been believing Satan’s lies and that they will come to listen to the truth.
That they will be able to stay encouraged and share a clear Gospel message with the people around them.
For wisdom regarding their involvement with the education of school children in the village.
Thank you for your prayers for Aaron and Amy and the Glarro people.
