A couple of weeks ago, Aaron and Amy Speitelsbach had a good turnout at the teaching session in the village where they serve among the Glarro people of Liberia. They had hoped to teach the last Old Testament lesson of the second round of teaching the following weekend. However, only a handful of adults showed up. They cut the lesson short and were going to retry this past weekend but they had to cancel because Aaron was sick. They plan to teach the lesson this weekend.
Currently people are working hard to get their rice farms ready and planted. They return from their farms late in the day and are often too tired to go back out again, for an evening Bible lesson.
Recently, a large group arrived from several other towns to mitigate the issue between two Glarro villages that erupted violently two years ago. Glarros from other Glarro villages also came for the meeting and they talked for several days. The problems are supposedly resolved but it is not certain that there is anything in place to prevent such fightings in the future.
During those talks, Aaron and Amy took the graduated literacy students to the ocean as planned. They had lots of fun, and they read parts of the Gospel of Mark together that they printed out as a booklet. Aaron had picked those passages to show man’s sin problem and the need for a saviour, who offers salvation to those who believe in Him, but who also wants us to follow Him unconditionally. It was impressive to see the kids during downtime grab those booklets and read them out loud on their own.
Now, Amy is back to teaching her Bible and literacy classes, since the school break is over and Aaron is trying to get a headstart on the next Bible lesson from the New Testament, while he is shaking his cold and headache off.
Praise:
Amy’s literacy class had a fun as well as spiritual time at the ocean.
That, although not forgotten, the dispute between the Glarro villages is put to rest, opening the door for Amy and Aaron to make visits to those villages again.
For Jesus’ selfless sacrifice on the cross and His resurrection, which gives us a living hope beyond this world.
Pray:
That the seed of God’s Word will produce growth in the hearts of the Glarro people as they encounter it.
For wisdom in preparing Bible lessons, and in interacting with the people.
Thank you for your prayers for the missionary team and the Glarro people.
