In early March, Sasch and Charissa Schwendich with Ruben, Judah, Hosanna and Zadok were able to attend a workshop on translation. It was a great experience where they learned a lot about translation principles and how to transfer meaning into another language. Best of all they were able to get some hands on experience in translating a portion of the book of Ruth into the Buru language with a translation consultant guiding them through the process. Even though they may not get going with the translation project in earnest for another two years, they are already looking forward to it.
Unfortunately, the town in Asia-Pacific where the workshop took place, was hit hard by flash floods and landslides due to strong rain the day before they left. Strong rains continued for several days afterwards accompanied by a minor earthquake causing more landslides and flooding, and hampering the relief efforts. Over a 100 people have died, many are still missing and thousands have been displaced as whole communities have been washed away. Please pray for the suffering people.
Many of our missionaries from that region were also in there at the time to attend various workshops. Thankfully, none of them was injured. They were able to be involved with the relief efforts and be a blessing to many.
Hearing the stories of loss of life and seeing the path of destruction our hearts and prayers go out to those who have suffered loss. Relief efforts and are transitioning from the daily food, water and medical needs to temporary housing needs and then into long term housing needs. They would appreciate your continued prayers.
