Sustaining grace

Most days are very much the same out in the bush, learning language and culture. But it’s also exciting as Chris and Meegan Weaver learn new things and figure out parts of the language but that aspect is hard to communicate. Their days are spent among the Uruwa people of Papua New Guinea cooking food with them, gardening, visiting, the guys helping to build houses etc. As language learning can be both discouraging and encouraging, they trust and rest in Him.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

Chris, Meegan and family were recently at the mission base for the children to do school testing and then for the area missionary conference. Fuel and flights and everything worked out for them to get out to the base and get to reconnect with co-workers, be refreshed, and rejuvenated.

Hiking to a different village was very difficult but beautiful. They are thankful for time spent with another family and their hospitality. They got to meet a lot of people and hope that one day there will be an outreach to this village! One cool thing Meegan learnt from one of her friends is how they make bark capes, blankets, and coverings. She was amazed to see the transformation from beating a piece of the wood to how it ends up being a huge warm covering for them. God has provided them with so many things for them to use in their natural environment.

They also enjoyed being behind the scenes when their friends were getting ready for their PNG independence celebration for some tourists that came to the area. One day they hope to understand more of the thinking and beliefs associated with this.

Pray for:

– Relationships within the community, that they would have discernment and understand the culture in order to cultivate real relationships.

– For the ability to understand and learn the language in a timely manner.

-For the Uruwa people to see a difference in them, and for their hearts to be softened and prepared for His Good News.

– For their children to bond well with each other and build relationships in the community, to be encouraged and enjoy their time in the bush.

– Dependence and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit as they display Christ and disciple their children.

– Their upcoming language evaluations.

– The different Uruwa villages, that they all would have the chance to hear God’s Word taught in their language.

Praise the Lord for:

– Safety in hiking to neighbouring villages

– His strength and sustaining grace

– The time at conference to be refreshed and reconnected
