Last lap

As David and Emma prepare for mission work, they are learning that qualifications and experience might be helpful but they are not as important as matters of the heart. Pray for their hearts to be humble and teachable.

As they enter the last lap of preparations they sometimes feel pulled in different directions. There are layers of paperwork to work through to be able to move to Papua New Guinea, ongoing training and the very relational task of developing partnerships with others who will send them. Pray for diligence and stamina in working through all the practical and administrative arrangements.

David and Emma want to “keep the main thing the main thing” and prioritise growth in their relationship with the Lord and each other in marriage and family life. They are grateful for special times with family over Christmas and opportunities to visit supporters and churches. They have been able to travel to France, Scotland and Northern Ireland but the majority of their time is spent with people in Sheffield and the wider Yorkshire region. They had encouraging times with supporters in Liverpool and Kirk Ella near Hull as well.

David and Emma give thanks for a growing “sending team” who want to partner with them in mission and for the wisdom and insight from others who are training them, mentoring them and providing accountability.

Dave has continued some part time GP work for the out of hours service in Sheffield and has joined an Emergency Medicine Study Group which meets each week.

He has been having training in anaesthetics and teamwork and over the next few weeks plans to attend courses on expedition medicine, prehospital care and counselling.

Pray for upcoming opportunities to share about mission and train others through the Christian Medical Fellowship – that the right people would come and that these would be significant times in their lives.

Emma has been learning more about teaching children music and has been able to continue to meet with ladies from the church for discipleship and encouragement.

Pray for Joshua to grow in his knowledge of the Lord and for them as a family as they try to encourage each other.
