Graduation

The teachers, who were all Class 1 graduates, signed the certificates themselves and handed them to the new graduates. Each student got to read a story they had written themselves. It was a great, encouraging time. Class 1 graduates also completed their “Post-literacy” course and received a library card.

The missionary team started a library and for the first time the people got to borrow books, they have just over twenty books at the moment, most books are stories written by the people, some of them are becoming good writers, the more they write the better they get. The library will continue to grow once the missionaries start teaching the Bible lessons they will also be available at the library.

Bible teaching should begin on February 6, God willing. Everyone in the village is excited about the coming teaching. The people have started building a huge meeting house; close to the Tousch’s house. It will make it easy for Aurélie schooling the children at the same time.

There will be one lesson every morning Monday to Friday, 7:30 in the morning, and the lessons will last about one and a half hours, for four months. They will start teaching the Bible from creation and then chronologically all the way to Revelation, and explain the plan of salvation.

In the past the people have heard all kind of things about God and they have mixed them with their animistic thinking. Please pray that God will work in their hearts and open their eyes to the truth so that they trust in Him.

The people are so excited to hear God’s Word. The missionaries have never seen anything like that before. They are thirsty for the truth; some of them are already conscious of their sins but they have no answer to their questions. An elderly lady told André and Aurélie the other day, “When I think of all the bad things I have done in my life, I cry. I have done a lot of bad things. I prayed to God but I don’t know if he heard me. I don’t know where I will go when I die. I don’t know where my husband went when he died. We’ve tried a lot of things people have told us to do, some church people told us to give them money, to do processions, to pray to statues, we also prayed to our spirits, and we’ve given food to our spirits, but we don’t know what the true way is, we are lost. We follow one way, and then another, but we are still confused.”

André and Aurélie told them God knows all this and he had mercy on them and now they are going to hear the truth about God. They were very happy to hear that. Thank you for your prayers and for your support, please pray that their village friends believe when they hear the truth and be set free.

Some people tell them that they are concerned that they will not be able to understand the teaching, that it will be too complicated for them. André and Aurélie tell them that God’s message is not complicated, God’s message is for everyone to understand. Please pray for these people who are stressed and think the message will be too complicated for them.

They continue to work on Bible translation. André is almost done drafting the passages for the teaching and will now slow down translation and spend more time with the people, and also prepare to teach the lessons. André and co-worker Jason are going to take turns teaching. Aurélie has started working on some passages in Acts for further teaching later on.

Thank you for your prayers. The team are entering a crucial phase in the ministry and they feel the pressure from the enemy.
