Recently the missionary team among the Glarro people of Liberia have not been able to teach on several days at the weekend, due to rains. However, they were able to hold a couple of lessons during the week. They were hoping to teach on a Thursday night and had sent out word so people would know about it, but then it started to rain again right at the time they were about to set up.
When they teach, a screen is hung up on a frame. At 7pm they turn on the projector and start showing some nature videos and lately also some animated or real people videos about content from the previous lessons as people trickle in. By 8pm, most of the people have arrived and they start with the Bible lesson. They use the projector and put pictures and maps up, as well as the Bible portions that are read in the Glarro language. Finishing at around 8:50pm, they pack everything up and head back to their house.
The tree under which the teaching takes place is in front of their host father’s house. At the end of a lesson, they give a set of laminated pictures to him, so he can string them up in front of his house. People use the pictures to tell their friends what the teaching has been about.
It seems that there is genuine interest in people wanting to hear more from God’s Word. On several days in the week when the teaching was missed, people asked if there would be teaching that day.
The trip to the beach with the boys that graduated Amy’s literacy class went well. Unfortunately, the sun was not out and with the breeze, it was a bit chilly. But that did not keep the kids from enjoying the waves. Last week, it was the girls’ turn to go to the beach and it rained on the second day.
On a recent Saturday, instead of putting on nature or Bible videos while waiting for people to show up, Amy and Keyla directed a ‘school closing programme’ where their students recited memory verses, narrated, and did skits that reviewed a lot of what they have been taught so far.
Please pray:
– That the weather will permit them to continue the teaching on a regular basis.
– That God will help them to love the Glarro people. And that they as His ambassadors will not be the cause of His message being rejected
– That they can concentrate when working on lessons, so that they can prepare them to the best of their ability.
Praise God that:
– Both the boys’ and girls’ outings went well.
– He loves the Glarro people, and is answering prayer, stirring interest in His Word in them.
Thank you for your prayers for the missionary team and the Glarro people!
