Connecting

Half a year has passed since Angie and Sara moved into the village in Southeast Asia. Now they have already seen all three seasons: when they arrived in January, it was still cold season, then in March/April there was the hot season, and now they are in the middle of the rainy season which is the longest of the three. They enjoy it being pleasantly cool because it is raining every day. However, they have noticed a problem that is caused by the high humidity. Their furniture, clothes and books are getting moldy. And it takes a long time for their laundry to get dry. In addition, their tap water is coming out brown because that water comes from a river.

They are currently learning how to patiently deal with these things. It helps them to think about the LORD, how much He was willing to endure in this world. He is worthy of joyful service! (cf. Matthew 10:38) This time is also teaching them to be grateful for the little things, that the LORD sends their way.

Pray for protection from the dengue fever, a disease transmitted by mosquitoes, more common during rainy season. Some villagers are already infected by it.

Angie and Sara are becoming more and more connected with the children in the village, and are very grateful for their trust, and that they love to come and spend time with them. Every week they tell them a story about their Creator in the national language. Since the village has a school, the children learn and understand the national language. Using the chronological sequence, they recently told the story of the life of Joseph. They want to share HIS plan of salvation with them, so that they will realise that this is the truth, which also concerns their lives, and the need to make a decision for themselves.

A special highlight this year for Angie was that her sister and her family visited for three weeks. Angie had not seen them for seven years. It was wonderful for them to be together again and have quality time with them and with Angie’s parents.

Both Sara and Angie enjoy learning the language because their language helper is so motivated and helpful. But they still have a long way to go. While collecting words and phrases, their goal was primarily to train their ears to hear the different sounds and recognise them without pronouncing them yet. The next step for us will be to learn by practicing to pronouncing those words and phrases.

Thank you for the vital part you have in this ministry through your faithful prayers and support. It is much appreciated!
