A lot has been going on since Lív returned to the village in West Africa in December, and there is still a lot more to do.
Before her return Lív spent a month in Dakar working on translation. She printed the prepared books of 2 Samuel and Judges. A co–worker printed 1 Samuel and sent it out to the village on a supply trip in late February.
Back in the village, she went through the young translator’s draft of Ezra and Nehemiah and then together they did the corrections that were needed. He is now continuing to work on the next steps of the translation process. They have almost finished going through his draft of Deuteronomy.
This month 1 and 2 Kings will be consultant checked. The language helper that they have used for the last checks will also be available, which is a real answer to prayer, since he is such an excellent helper. Pray for health, strength and wisdom as they go through these books and that they all sleep well at night. It is currently very hot, 32°C inside at 20:30.
Bible teaching usually takes place once a week during the rainy season. In late January, when the field work is done, they start teaching five nights a week. Before they can print the New Testament, they need to read it to a group of people. Each session they have been reading through the epistles. Her co-worker has then shared something short about the text that has been read. They still have Romans, and 1 and 2 Corinthians left to read. They hope to be able to finish those in May.
While her co-workers are on home assignment some of the men are willing to be responsible for opening and closing the meeting. Lív will then do the Bible reading. Pray for the men that have agreed to taking on this responsibility. It is quite a step for them. Pray that the Lord strengthens and encourages them.
Lív has been encouraged by some of the comments that people have made about how sweet it is to hear God’s Word. However, it was discouraging to see the numbers dwindle at one point to between 10-15 who faithfully continued attending. For which they are very thankful to the Lord. They will take a break from the Bible reading while the consultant visits and start again after the check.
They also want to try to read through the Gospels and Acts before this summer. Lív wants to get a group together during the mornings, that she can read to. Pray that people will be willing to come to listen, and that it will work out well. Pray for health, strength and wisdom for everything that needs to be done, and that the Lord in His mercy will make it possible for them to finish reading through the New Testament before this summer.
Thank you for standing with them in prayer.
