Challenges and hurdles

Praise the Lord Ben and Tabea have been able to move into their new house in the village in Asia-
Pacific. There have been many challenges and hurdles to get to this point but that makes them even
more grateful to be there and to start with learning the tribal language.

They made it their goal to go out in the community once a day even if it was just for a short walk, so
that they were not just focusing on the house. This slowed down the progress but helped them to start
building relationships with the people in the village. They have been warmly welcomed. When they
started language study about a month later, they already knew people’s names etc., and where they
live.

Ben and co-worker Dave had the chance to hike into the mountains and stay in the village from where
their neighbours originate, It was about a five-hour hike.

(The people have moved down from this village in the mountains so that their kids can go to school
and the adults can work in the palm oil plantation.)

Please pray:

For strength to juggle responsibilities. e.g. family, language learning, house projects (particularly
installing the solar system), community projects such as giving people lifts for local football games
and providing a clean water system.

For wisdom in navigating the different aspects of the culture.

For safety when travelling.

That Ben will be able to finish the language learning app that he has been programming in time for it to
be used by the team. He has already started using it on his own computer and it is showing itself to be
useful.
