By Grace

Besides culture and language learning and all manner of other things that happen to come up in a day in the tribe, during the last few weeks as a family Ben and Wina with Noah have taken some time to consider the topic of grace. They’d like to share just a few thoughts with you:
The scriptures are overwhelmingly clear that we can do absolutely nothing to earn salvation in any way. Only faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross as He died for our sins can give us life. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Eph. 2:8-9) It is only because of God’s grace that He see us as righteous – we who have believed on Jesus Christ as our Saviour. What a wonderful gift! We relate to God on the basis of His grace alone. We are saved by grace and we are to live by grace every day of our Christian lives. Our gratitude and love to God in response to His grace is our motivation for obedience and good works and keeping His commands. Christ’s love compels us to no longer live for ourselves but to live for Him. (2 Cor. 5:14-15)
Even though the missionary team are not yet able to teach the Gospel to the people in the village because of the language barrier, their actions speak louder than words. The pressure of knowing that they are always being watched and that their lives will have a large impact on how people will perceive the Gospel can be sometimes very burdensome and also very good. As Christians we are certainly not perfect people and we continue to fail. In spite of that, we have the privilege/responsibility to bring people near to Christ through our lives. Daily there are situations where we have to ask ourselves, “What does the Bible say about this?” or, “What would Jesus do?”
Pray for Ben and Wina and their co-workers, that they would live their lives for God’s glory and that the people would begin to learn a little bit about what God is like, even while, as yet, they do not really know who God is. Also pray for wisdom in knowing how best to live out their faith amidst the people’s animistic culture. What a responsibility we have as Christians and what a privilege!
