A milestone reached

In May last year, André Tousch was able to travel to Papua New Guinea for the translation of the New Testament into the Iski language.

The purpose of this trip was to check with a consultant several portions of the New Testament, that had been translated between 2021 and 2025. This included sections of the Gospel of Matthew, and several epistles: 2 Corinthians, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon.

The translation was checked in town, at the mission centre; Iski believers joined with them to help with this task.

After his time in town, André was able to visit the Iski people for a weekend and spend time with the church in Masa. It had been two years since he had been there. He was encouraged to see the church leaders so motivated and committed to sharing the Gospel. (Several people from neighbouring villages have asked to be taught. The church then arranged for all of them to receive Bible teaching and several people have believed and have been added to the church.) He was able to participate in the Masa church service and even teach a Bible lesson which was a challenge because he has little opportunity to speak the language when in France.

He was also able to visit colleagues, the Hansen and Stanley families in Kovol, whom they have known for years and who live in a remote tribe in the same region.

In June, he had the joy of visiting several churches in France, to share news from PNG and talk about his ministry with SIM.

In July, the Spiritual Life Conference was held at the SIM office. Later that month they had a seminar about language learning techniques, to prepare future missionaries for language acquisition.

After a break in August, André was back to work, and in September he had several opportunities to talk with potential candidates for mission.

In October, his colleague Jason was also able to check with a consultant the portions of the New Testament he was translating. The Iski New Testament is now fully checked with the consultant! They thank the Lord for this major milestone in this project that began in 2015. There is still some preparation work to be done prior to printing, but the bulk of the project is now behind them.
